Something about Dr. Atkins
Dr. Atkins was born in 1930. He completed his graduation from Cornell University medical school in the year of 1955 where he did his specialization in the field of cardiology. He devoted 30 years of his life to this field of health.
Dr. Atkin and his diet plan
Dr. Atkin introduced his diet plan in 1970 which was published in 1972. His diet plan emphasized on the consumption of food items which had high protein content like sea food, poultry, eggs and high fat content like butter, cheese etc. The consumption of carbohydrate is restricted to 10 to 20 grams a day. This diet plan restricts the consumption on milk, white rice, wheat flour any everything which has high carbohydrate content. He believed that if carbohydrates in food are restricted suddenly fat would be burnt for deriving the immediate energy required for body. This would in turn help in cutting down fat in the body and hence help in weight reduction. He even assured that following such a diet helps in maintaining a good memory and a healthy body. Dr Atkin died due to a severe head injury while going back home from his office when he fell on ice while walking. Several controversies and questions were raised against this diet following his death because he himself was obese and apparently died because of some heart problem. Because of these controversies Atkin product sales fell down abruptly following his death in 2004.
Conclusion
Atkins diet came as a revolution some 2 years back. The popularity was so huge that in America several beverage companies had to introduce low cal and low sugar drinks to boost up their sales again which had drastically gone down after the Atkin revolution. There are still many questions left unanswered about the consequences of following Atkins diet. But the worldwide studies have apparently shown positive outcomes without any side effects. So there were never enough evidences to support the controversial questions. Following Atkins diet does help in the drastic reduction of weight. Fluctuations do occur but they happen after any weight reduction plan because the body has a tendency to revert back to the normal weight.
